Although the scope of the grant did not allow us to follow graduates through their college careers, we did conduct initial follow up one year out with a cohort of students which suggested initial college success among low-income students from the partner schools.
We conducted a phone survey of those students from the partner schools who participated in the College Costs Estimator program who had estimated Pell Grant eligibility at the time of Estimator completion to see if/where they enrolled in the Fall of 2004 and what they were doing the following fall. Of the students for whom data were gathered:
- 92% enrolled in a postsecondary program in the Fall of 2004 (45/49)
- 96% of those students returned to school in the Fall of 2005 (43/45)
- 72% of those students returned to the same school in the Fall of 2005 (31/43)
- 28% attended a different institution in the Fall of 2005 (12/43)
- 2 additional students enrolled in college for the first time in the Fall of 2005
