May, 2008

On May 7, 2008 the President signed legislation passed by Congress known as the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008. Among other provisions, it amends the Higher Education Act to increase, by $2,000, the maximum annual unsubsidized Stafford loan amounts that may be provided to undergraduate students under the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) program. It also increases the aggregate limit on such loans to $31,000 for dependent undergraduates and $57,500 for independent undergraduates. To learn more about how these changes may affect your student loan for 2008-2009 (and beyond), contact the financial aid office at the college you (plan to) attend.
