Our Conclusions

For the Class of 2004, 49 of the 80 students who met the qualifying criteria (61%) were successfully contacted. (In the case of the other 31, we either received no return phone call after leaving a message, the phone number was no longer in service, there was no answer at the time of the call, or the person answering the phone was unable to help us.)

Although this sample is rather small, we believe this is further evidence that this kind of programming, and perhaps in particular early education regarding financial aid, can be empowering for low-income students and can provide an important foundation for successful postsecondary pursuits.
