Still need to file a FAFSA? Here are a few tips.

With thanks to the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA), here are their suggestions when it comes to common mistakes that delay the form’s submission:

  • Don’t leave fields blank, instead put a zero or not applicable

  • Recheck Social Security Number (SSN) and driver’s license numbers; there may be no tougher situation to resolve than an inaccurate SSN, you probably will have to start the FAFSA all over again

  • Use your legal name EXACTLY as it appears on your Social Security card

  • Even if you are not sure which college you might attend, add any reasonable possibilities to receive your information. You are under no obligation to attend any college you put down.
